Bridge Command Tour with Owen Kingston

Bridge Command is for a small audience of six people and has a different scenario for each show as though you are a part of television episode. In the spaceship you encounter difficulties and challenges which you must solve via the computer interface.

Whilst the challenges change the audience’s responsibility to solve it remains and their decisions have real consequences within the narrative arch of the “episode” they are inside. They are free to roam but it is a small space and the reality is that if you are successfully immersed “in world” you would be focused upon the monitors, not on exploring.

The set had the fragility of a submarine under the huge pressure of the ocean. The spaceship is rusting and old and obviously not the newest model but this design realism from the future rings true, cars and trains are worn through use, why then not spaceships? There is an amazing engine/ reactor that can breakdown during the show spilling theatre smoke into the engine room.

To allow audience members to communicate with the ship Parabolic had used Amazon Alexas and positioned them around the set so that audiences could interact with the ship’s “computer.” This brought the set to life but also made it a very effective experience in terms of cost as it reduced the number of actors needed to run it.
